Peter is from Gogrial, a region in South Sudan. He was one of the Lost Boys who were chosen to be resettled in America. The screening process was extensive, with many interviews with the Sudanese refugee boys. He was good friends with Santino Chuor, but grew apart when Peter decided to leave Houston without a word and try for a new life in Olathe, Kansas. He had wanted a better chance at education and felt that the aid workers didn't provide that chance well enough. In Kansas, he attended the Olathe East High School and graduated in June 2003. Since then, he has attended community college courses in preparation for four-year universities. In 2005, he recieved a full scholarship to Green Mountain College in Vermont. He is married Kucci Deng. | Peter wants to be a doctor so he can "help others in the way that people have helped him", and he earned a bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in sociology and communication. He decided to star in the film "The Lost Boys of Sudan" because he wanted to raise enough money to go back to Sudan. He had discovered that his family (sisters and mother) was still alive, and he wanted to help them move back to their home village in South Sudan. In addition, he wants to raise awareness of the refugee situation in Sudan. He's involved with the Congressional Refugee and Human Rights Caucuses, Migration and Refugees, the State Department's Bureau of Population, and CARE. He's also set up "Mayardit Lost Boys Healthcare Foundation" in hopes to bring healthcare back to Sudan. |
